As you return to the Deneith enclave, your captives are sullen and quiet. The blademark guards are still outside the building, and they are chuckling and chatting. Change of the guard must be soon and it sounds like they are looking forward to being off. As they see you coming, they both frown.
* Calden mentally prepares for this

As you approach the enclave, Sorghan wakes up...

Sorghan: “Get Lord Sadran, blademark. And Tasra and Lalia. Have them meet us in the Hall of Scales. Now!”
Sorghan: “If you’re going to go ahead with this, Calden, then do it right. Lord Sadran will hear out your charges and make his judgment. We’ll see how much standing you have here, boy.”
Calden: Get Brion as well.
Blademark: "Yes sirs."
Inside the enclave is a large room where the lord of the household often holds balls and large parties. It is also the place where the leadership of the enclave holds court when decisions are to be made or disseminated. It is called the Hall of Scales due to the large statue in the center of the room holding the scales of justice—an expression of Deneith reverence for law. You lead Sorghan into the room just as others are entering. Tasra and Lalia, identical twin female Sentinel Marshals, are already there, as well as some from the Protector’s Guild. An older man enters the room, grey-haired and wearing fine robes—he is Lord Sadran, the head of the Sharn enclave. A number of blademarks begin filing into the room from different directions.
Calden: It's not about standing, Sorghan. It's about propriaty.
Sorghan: “Madness has consumed Calden, Lord Sadran! He attacked me on the street in Cliffside. I demand justice!”
Brion d'Deneith, Calden's superior, rushes into the room just as Sorghan makes his accusation.
* Lord Sadran turns to Calden.
Lord Sadran: “Your fellow Marshal has made a serious accusation, Calden. Accusations of treason to the House and an attempt at murder. Is what he says true?”
Calden: No. Quite the oppisate, in fact.
Ashe: ((I was thinking it would really help Calden to help some people of good standing and rank to help him in his testimony..))
Sorghan: “Lies! He allowed this Brelish agent to make decisions over what we should do with an aberrant.”
Ashe: ((to have...)
Brion: “Sorghan. That was his job! We have a contract with the King’s Citadel.”
Calden: He used Ser Brions name to trick me into delievering a prisoner by the name of Jurgen to him. When I refused to allow him to torture the prisoner, he and his men attacked.
Tasra: “Yes, and that seems to be more important than House Deneith’s interests in the aberrant. You know the problem the Houses have been having with them of late. I question your judgment in accepting the contract in the first place.”
Brion: “Oh. Is that what this is all about, Tasra? My leadership?”
Tasra: “I think Sorghan was just protecting the interests of the House. Something Brion should do more of, don’t you think Lalia?”
Lalia: “Definitely.”
Brion: “Last time I checked, contracts are the interests of the House. No matter who they come from.”
Calden: *nods* We are duty bound to fulfill them.
Calden: It is the very foundation of our abilties to both sell swords and enforce the Edicts of Korth.
Lord Sadran: “Enough of this. What more of your accusations, Sorghan?”
Sorghan: “It was simple treachery. I am his superior and demanded to interrogate the prisoner. He resisted and then attacked me on the streets, like a common thief. His criminal accomplices attacked as well. If it weren’t for my heroics, they would have killed us all.”
Sorghan: "And as you can see, he has let the prisoner go."
Calden: The prisoner remains underguard.
Keira: (central philosophy of deneith is the letter of the law.. according to Dragonmarked)
Sorghan: "Under who's guard? Your criminal friends?!"
Calden: I did not wish to bring one such as him within the enclave if it wasn't neccessary.
Lalia: "Obviously a misjudgment. He's been learning from you Brion."
Keira: (an dlaw of the contract is higher then law of the land)
Lord Sadran: “I’m sure. Calden, this is a serious charge. What do you have to say?”
Calden: My friends added me in enforcing our contracts. Yours adding you in rebellion against orders.
Calden: If you wish to see the prisoner, send your bladmarks to the cafe. Cur will be glad to escort him before you.
Brion: "What cafe?"
DM: ((We can assume you tell him.))
Calden: (( yeah, the bistro where Keira, Cur, and Nissa are. ))
Ashe whispers: OOOOHHH you can cut the tension with a spoon!!
Lord Sadran: "I can see that Sorghan is the worse for wear. By your hand, Calden?"
Calden: I followed my orders, and upheld the contract with the Citadel. I defended the prisoner against those that would take him for their own ends.
Calden: In my own defense, and I spared his life.
Lord Sadran: "And you saw Sorghan, a fellow Sentinel Marshal as an enemy to Deneith goals?"
Calden: More then he would have done, I wager.
* Lord Sadran raises an eyebrow.
Calden: Our goals are to carry out the contracts we are given. Those that seek to prevent us from doing so... *shrugs*
Calden: If you have -other- goals for the House, perhaps you should inform those that carry out the duties of the House.

Lord Sadran: “I find your explanation… wanting. It troubles me greatly to find one Marshal wantonly attacking another. You know how we value order in this House, Calden. And by attacking a senior member, you have betrayed the very value that this household is built upon. Blademarks, take Calden d’Deneith into custody. His companions are free to go, but are warned not to cross House Deneith in the future.”
Calden: (( fits the character, IMO ))

Brion: “Lord Sadran! This is unconscionable!”
Lord Sadran: “Silence, Brion! If anything, this whole matter is most damning of you! You, Tasra, and Lalia will report to my office immediately. It’s high time I dealt with your questionable leadership.”
* Calden looks resign, shocked, and in disbelief
The leaders of the enclave start leaving the hall. A group of blademarks move to apprehend Calden. Resisting them would be sure death as you are in a dragonmarked enclave and are hopelessly outnumbered.
Keira: (.. and none of the rank an dfile obey the leader? sheesh )
Sorghan walks up to Calden as the blademarks start to take him out of the room.
Sorghan: “I told you, boy. The winds are changing. But not for me. Brion goes back to Karrnath, and you, I’m sure, will die. You should have listened to me. Fool.”
Ashe: (( HEADBUTT HIM!!!))
Calden: I have my honor, Sorghan. That is enough.
Ashe: (( HEADBUTT HIM!!!))

Ashe: (( HEADBUTT!!))

Calden is taken to the stockades in the basement.

Moments later, Brion storms out of the enclave and finds his way to the cafe that Calden mentioned. He finds Keira and Cur.

Ashe: "That fool... he just had to follow orders...!"
Brion: "Yes, as Calden said. But Sorghan argued the opposite."
Keira: "Politics above honor and justice... stupid..."
Nissa: How can he be charged with attempted murder when he clearly brought Sorghan back alive?
Brion: "I'm not sure this is common House politics. Something isn't right here."
Ashe: "Alright we'll need plans for the holding cell... 10 pounds of Alchemist Fire... 100 feet of rope.. a grapling hook and 3 gnome mimes..."

Brion d'Deneith: “I’ve been ordered to Sentinel Tower in Karrnath. Tasra and Lalia finally get their wish to lead the Marshals here. Good riddance, I say. Something isn’t right here in this enclave, and I don’t think I have much of a future. I have enough connections in Sentinel Tower that I’ll be fine.”
Brion d'Deneith: “But I can’t leave Calden to his fate. Sadran has ordered him executed, which is complete madness. He should be sent to Karrnath to be disciplined. At worst they would demote him back to the Blademark Guild, but I highly doubt that would happen.”
Brion d'Deneith: “So I’m breaking him out. Are you with me?”
Ashe: "I already said I was."
Taus: "Sounds fun... do you have a plan?"
Keira: "So long as your plan is better than gnome mimes..."
* Brion d'Deneith nods.
Brion d'Deneith: "I have an idea of what we can do, which I'll get to."
Taus: "Ashe wants to try the Khyber Mime Ploy, of all things..."
Ashe: "I may be able to call on a few favors from the Citadel if required... but I doubt it.."
Nissa: Yes, a lack of degrading my race would be preferable.
* Calden opens his eyes to see a group of shadows before him, beconing him towards them.
Brion d'Deneith: "I doubt the Citadel would tread on the enclaves toes. Even for me."
Brion d'Deneith: “You should also know that things aren’t what they seem with this contract with the Citadel. The enclave has another player in the mix. They’ve kept me out of the details, but I do know that Thora Tarkanan, the former leader of the aberrants, has been here in secret to meet with Lord Sadran.”

Brion d'Deneith: “Since this Son of Khyber has appeared, she’s been on the outs in House Tarkanan, and I’m sure she doesn’t like it. The organization was formerly an assassins guild, and the best. If someone wanted a nobleman dead, the Tarkanans would be the ones to go to. But the Son of Khyber has changed things. They’ve become a terrorist group to the dragonmarked houses. Freedom fighters, they now see themselves. Held down and persecuted by the Houses, but now on a holy war to freedom. Bullshit, if you ask me, but they’ve been effective. In the past month they’ve killed a few dragonmarked heirs.”
Brion d'Deneith: “I think you can put two and two together and see why Thora was there.”
Ashe: "The best? I doubt that... they've never mewt my guild.." Ashe mutters under his breath....
Brion d'Deneith: “I don’t know what the Citadel wants with the Son of Khyber, but know that you’re not the only ones trying to get your hands on him.”

He can get to Calden and even come up with a reason to get him out of his cell. Once free, it should be easy enough to get to one of the side doors to the enclave. But getting out the door is another matter. Every entrance/exit to the enclave is guarded by at least two blademarks. They surely would be given orders to not allow Calden to leave. Each exit also has protective arcane wards which will require disabling. And patrols circuit the exterior. You’ll have to deal with these obstacles. The escape will occur at 10 bells while the enclave is shutting down for the night.
